MTMTE 1 cover variations by dcjosh MTMTE 1 cover variations by dcjosh
Hey guys!

So Liam's own for-fun take on this cover reminded me that my own version actually went through a couple revisions before settling on the final printed version!

This was actually before I realized this cover was a homage so I just kinda went to town. The first version was done up in the same color style i used for Death of Optimus Prime [just wanted to kind of bridge the styles between DoOP and MTMTE]

The second version was to give main focus on Rodimus there. It was thought to maybe use this one as a sort of promotional image for the book, but never got used

And then the final version was just a straight up homage. full color characters, stark white background

Anyways! I always find it fun looking into the behind the scenes stuff so figured itd be neat to post this up :)

I like the warmth of the final piece, but the the first one has some very nice, vibrant, contrasting hues too! Especially how you brought out that red in Roddy and the guy to the right, really nice! Either way you go, it's a awesome job!

I always find myself drooling when I see the way you utilize textures within the colors, you've got such a great balance of clean-solid-flats and heavy grunge areas. I like the background in the first two, it's always fun to see dem G1 box/cartoon references, who knew such a simple design would become so recognizable :) I love all three, but I think the one that was chosen was a great way to kick off More than Meets the Eye, the bright colors really lend themselves to the energy of the story and lighten the mood after a trip like DoOP. You've really given MtMtE it's own fresh feel with your coloring, I can't wait to see more!

The DoOP color scheme is the best in my opinion. Your work on that issue is amazing, and I'd love to see some issues of MTMTE with that color scheme (maybe flashbacks or something)

The second version looks like the story reveal is too much.
All the crew of LL have died, except Rodimus.

Thanks for sharing! Love seeing the progression of ideas. It's helpful.
I really do think the "real" one if by far the best, though. (Which is good, eh?)

I can't decide which one looks better. All of them are impressive! I love your color choices.

i love how our minds work man.
Though i think your first one we lose a lot of shape and form with the use of the dark blue shads.

Love the second one though i'd love to have seen you make the crowd a bit more saturated and brighter to pop from the background itself
