Convention Banner idea by dcjosh Convention Banner idea by dcjosh
So I been tryin to cobble together something to get a banner made of for cons and stuff. I been goin back and forth and tweaking the heck out of this trying to get it "just right." This is my latest pass. Unless someone has an even more amazing-er idea than something like this then I think this'll probably be what I go with for now. Whatever I do I have to decide fast. I plan on having this ready for my table at Botcon this next month!

What do you guys think?

If you're advertising your self, the name might be kinda on the small side. You may want to think about running your name the other direction, perhaps with artwork inside the text.

I do agree on maybe keeping the lettering to your name one main color, and perhaps even a bit bigger. and as one poster suggested, a nice bright White, and maybe even try a light-blue/turquoise stroke around the lettering. see how it looks.

I think you need to brighten this up a bit. it's too dark and moody to me, and from afar, you won't really see it too well. I've always noticed that the most vibrantly colored banners get people to stop in their tracks and do a trile take and walk towards it. ;) I've made a ton of banners and believe you me bro. they POP.

However, this is most certainly you. and it has YOU all over it. like I said just brighten the colors more so they don't look so faded or so full of minimal contrast. if anything the contrast should be stronger. make those reds and oranges slap a mofo as they walk past it. get those blues to catch the eye.

The lettering is a decent start. and if that's your primary focus you want people to be drawn into the most, then your off to a decent start. ;)

just my own 2cents. :)

I'm more a fan of the "best image" approach personally. Use one cool one and I think you'll have it.
We were talking about doing a collab; want me to draw you a Super Deformer? XD

One point of crit from your letterer buddy:

I'd pare th elettering down a bit. Red stroke over white fill is a bit risky sometimes. I'd suggest you maybe use plain white text, for a nice high-contrast effect.

i understand the effect but i think the extent to which the filter is used makes the images a strain on the eyes to see. lighten up on it a little?

OK, thoughts:
This isn't a bad idea, but you can do much better.
Remember the basic design rule "Big, Medium, Small." Choose three or so of your best-loved/most arresting images (possibly Overlord, Batman, and Whirl avatar), and place them first on the plain background, making them work together and flow well.
Then choose 5-7 secondary images, and place them around larger pics, some in front and some behind, but all grayed-down about 20% in opacity. (Still looking at poster as a whole, making sure colors/values flow well.)
Then you can do some interesting small things, perhaps some of your art deco type listing your major projects over the last several years, or if you want you can put in some small images -- maybe you could put them on top of the whole thing and give them borders in your trademark red.

If that gets too busy, then I'd keep it simple. Choose some one thing that'll really get people's attention, an iconic image.
OH! Do a banner of Overlord pulling Impactor's harpoon out of his eye, eh? Just that, really zoomed-in?
Or that Prime w/ moon cover, since choosing something from MTMTE might be a better idea since it's current.

Hope this helps. See you there!

I think it is perfect ;)

I don't know if it's my screen or not but it's a bit dark, not sure how it would look at banner size but it kinda blends everything together in a strange muddled manner. I do like SeanE's idea though, building it up from one image, it'll be more striking that way.
